Natural Increase By Bob Burg

Consider this: “All human activities are based on the desire for increase. People seek more clothes, more food, better shelter, more luxury, more beauty, healthier relationships, more knowledge, more pleasure, and more life. And, there is enough universal substance (including natural resources and brain-power) that every one of these desires can be achieved by everyone.”

This philosophy, professing a “Universe of Abundance” (as opposed to a lack of abundance, with limited resources) is taught in much of the finest literature and by those who’ve dedicated their lives to the study of universal principles.

At first, the desire for increase appears to be nothing more than an idea based solely on humankind’s tendency toward egocentrism. In practice, however, those who live their lives adhering to this ethic, typically use their accumulated “abundance” to “give back” well in-kind.

How? Aside from utilizing their abundance for their own pleasure (which, indirectly, gives back by strengthening the economy, creating jobs, etc.), they tend to also give more to personal causes, including, but not limited to, their houses of worship and charities assisting those people who cannot financially help themselves.

The essence of life is that of personal growth; including emotional, spiritual, mental, physical and financial. All of this is a *natural* desire of humanity, and each plays its part in the creation of a full and complete life.

With that in mind, those who have the “Winning Without Intimidation” belief system of win/win and mutual gain can feel great about the following sentence in one of my favorite books, The Science of Getting Rich. In this classic, written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles, he says, “No matter what your profession, if you can give increase of life to others and make them sensible of this gift, they will be attracted to you, and you will get rich.

I have a feeling that, because of the “lack mindset” that – in my opinion – so much of humanity has accepted, there will be those who possibly might not allow themselves to see the beauty of Mr. Wattles above statement. If that’s the case, please see the final word, “rich”, as meaning rich in something other than money. Money, of course, is only one part of the concept of “rich.

So, what does Mr. Wattles mean by that statement, and how do you apply it in order to cause your own abundance?

My personal interpretation is that by “transmitting increase” – both by thought, word and deed – upon everyone you meet, you will cause them to wish to be more a part of your life in whatever area you desire. This could pertain to either your business or personal life – or perhaps both, if that is appropriate.

When you follow the principles of Positive Persuasion (wwi), always desiring to help the other person gain in ways important to *them*, you set yourself up for a mutually beneficial, give and take, win/win relationship with that person. He or she will, as part of this type of relationship, want to give back to you, either directly, or even more powerfully, by helping you to meet others from whom, with whom, and to whom you can benefit.

When you, as a successful giver, attract and meet other successful givers, you’ll find that these relationships are not “50/50” in nature, but “100/100”, and result in business (or friendships, relationships) as you’ve never experienced.

Now, I’ll just tell you; there are people who will simply never “get” this concept. That’s okay. We must honor their right to live a belief system with which they are comfortable. And, if their current way is working for them, that’s great!

However, the people who buy into this way of life will find changes happening almost immediately that will result in a continual source of delight and abundance in their lives. I see it with the people I teach (one, in particular, right now, who I’m *so* proud of!) and experience it myself in my own life.

In a world of abundance, not only is there enough to go around, but the more you create, and teach others to create, the better for everyone. And, not just financially, but in every other important area of life, as well.
