TWO PERSONALITY POWERS FOR MOTIVATING OTHERS
by Brian Tracy

There are two powers of personality you can develop that will increase your charisma and your ability to influence others.

DECIDE EXACTLY WHAT

The first of these powers is the power of purpose. Men and women with charisma and personal magnetism almost invariably have a clear vision of who they are, of where they're going and of what they're trying to achieve. Leaders in sales and management have a vision of what they're trying to create and why they're doing what they're doing. They're focused on accomplishing some great purpose. They're decisive about every aspect of their lives. They know exactly what they want and what they have to do to get it. They plan their work and work their plan.

SET CLEAR GOALS FOR YOURSELF

You can increase your charisma and the magnetism of your personality by setting clear goals for yourself, making plans to achieve them, and working on your plans with discipline and determination every day. The whole world seems to move aside for the person who knows exactly where he is going. In fact, the clearer you are about your purposes and goals, the more likely people will be to attribute other positive qualities to you. They will see you, or perceive you, as being a better and more admirable human being. And when you have clear goals, you begin attracting to yourself the people and opportunities necessary to make those goals a reality.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

The second personality power is self-confidence. Men and women with charisma have an intense belief in themselves and in what they are doing. They are usually calm, cool and composed about themselves and their work. Your level of self-confidence is often demonstrated in your courage, your willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve a purpose that you believe in.

THE SECRET OF ATTRACTION

People are naturally attracted to those who exude a sense of self-confidence, those who have an unshakable belief in their ability to rise above circumstances to attain their goals.

ASSUME THE RESULT IN ADVANCE

One of the ways you demonstrate self-confidence is by assuming that people naturally like you and accept you and want to do business with you. For example, one of the most powerful ways to close a sale is simply to assume that the prospect has decided to purchase the product or service, and then go on to wrap up the details. One of the best ways to achieve success in your relationships is to assume that people naturally enjoy your company and want to be around you, and then proceed on that basis. The very act of behaving in a self-confident manner will generate personal charisma in the eyes of others.

ACTION EXERCISES

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action:

First, think on paper. Write out your goals and plans in detail and then review them regularly. Discuss them with others. Upgrade your goals and plans and revise them when you get new information. Be clear about them.

Second, express your level of self-confidence to others all the time, even if you have doubts inside. Always walk, talk, act and move like a winner, like a person who is absolutely confident of success and ultimate victory.

How To Bore Your Way To Success
By Gary Vurnum

OK. I'll admit it. I'm passionate about success.

I think about it every day. I think about it as I drift off to sleep. I think about it when I catch myself being idle for five minutes.

I can't help it. It's my drug. And - everywhere I look...I find what I'm looking for!

I see things now that I used to miss before. I pick up those little clues that I can use to my advantage.

The clues are there - if you look hard enough.

Do you remember when you were a love-struck teenager? How the 'love of your life' consumed every waking moment, and totally destroyed your relationships with your friends who quickly took second place to 'the one'?

Well...I'm like that. Except that I've managed to control my 'urges' to make sure that I play an active role in my family's upbringing.

At the ripe old age of 32 I'd rather read a book than go out for a drink!

Why?

I choose to do so because I know that unless I constantly search for the clues to success - I won't find them.

So - out with novels. In with biographies and non-fiction!

If there was a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" solely on success and personal development - I'd win it!

But...what's this got to do with you, I bet you're wondering.

EVERYTHING!

You see - you don't have to turn into a 'success bore' like me to find out a path that works for you.

You just have to find a subject that you are really passionate about - and then become a 'bore' in that!

Knowledge is king.

However you look at life - those who have succeeded are those people that 'know their stuff'.

Look at a super-nerd like Bill Gates! If you didn't know who he was - you wouldn't give him a second-glance in the street, would you?

But...love him or hate him - he certainly knows his stuff and definitely has plans on how to make the most of it.

What about you?

What are YOU really passionate about?

What would you love to do if money was no object?

OK. I know - money does play a part.

But...

I learned over the last couple of years that I had it the wrong way around.

I'd look for the highest paid job...rather than the one that interested me the most.

I'd buy the biggest TV that I could barely afford even though a smaller one did exactly the same.

When I realised that I should look at what I wanted, irrespective of how much it cost, or how much it paid - my whole life changed.

So - instead of focusing on how much money I could make, I concentrated on how much VALUE I could give.

I know that I will get 'paid' in the future - providing that I don't expect something up-front.

So eventually - my passion will pay off.

Did you notice the key word - *eventually*.

It's all very well being passionate about something - but it's an entirely different ballgame to expect that it's going to make your fortune overnight.

Look around you at some of the most famous people from all walks of life.

From Madonna to Mahatma Gandhi...they ALL had a passion for what they loved to do - and didn't let poverty or continual setbacks stop them from finally achieving what they really were passionate about.

It didn't happen overnight for them - so why should it happen overnight for you?

Whether you 'believe' or not - everything that you do in life is a directly linked to cause and effect.

Give before you take.
Do the boss's job without getting paid for it. Help someone without an expectation of anything in return.

Be passionate about what you do - and instead of focusing on a payment - focus on what value you can give first.

Life has an uncanny ability to reward those who reward others - it just takes longer than most people are prepared to wait.

But then again - the only thing that we ALL have an equal share of...is time.

On Serving Others
By Zig Ziglar

Southwest Airlines magazine carried an article about computer magnate Michael Dell, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in our country. Dell explained the success of his company and believes they are and will continue to be successful because of their unique relationships with their customers.

He stated, "As long as we continue to pay heed to what our customers tell us they want, and deliver products and services that are meaningful to them, and that they deliver superior value, we will continue to be successful."

I might point out this is not a new concept or idea, but, unfortunately, too many people and companies have lost the service concept. Many years ago Henry Ford stated that if we give truly outstanding service and genuinely care about the people we serve, our profits will be embarrassingly large. Two thousand years ago the Carpenter from Galilee stated that "He who would be the greatest among you must become the servant of all."

When we put the other person's feelings and needs above our own, amazingly enough our needs will be met big-time. Those people who do the right thing, and often the nice thing, are the ones who not only are the most successful in their businesses but happier in their personal lives as well.

No More, Now What?
By Marcia Wieder

Two very powerful words are "No more." If you take a brief inventory of your days and weeks, you can quickly assess how you spend your time. Tally those hours and you'll see how you are living your life. Are you spending the majority of your time doing what's important to you, what you value, what matters to you most?

If you're like most, surely you have to-do lists. But do you have a "stop doing" list? What's eating up too much of your time and energy? What do you need to stop doing or at least cut back on?

I teach that the key to manifestation is integrity. Integrity is keeping our agreements but the person it is most difficult to do this with is usually ourselves. Where are you out of integrity with your values, your heart and your soul? Are the words, "No thank you," part of your vocabulary?

Here's the payoff. As you say "no more," it makes room for "now what?" Now that you have some time and space in your life, what do you want more of? Now that you have some extra energy, because you're no longer using it up on things that you are not passionate about, what do you want to do? Now that you have more of yourself back, now what?

Make room in your life for your dreams, for the people you love, for the experiences you are here to have. Life is short and filled with precious moments. Don't miss out on living your life, since it's why you are here. Make what's important a priority, especially your dreams and the dreams of the people you love.

Motivational and Inspirational Music CD -- "Reach Higher"

I got a great email from one of the readers of my Let's Talk Motivation! newsletter the other day. It was from a fellow named Richard Berardi. Richard and his brother Michael are song writers (as he mentioned in his email, they wrote the group Alabama's first hit).

In Richard's email to me he mentioned a new inspirational & motivational CD they have out called, "Reach Higher" -- The songs are about overcoming challenges in our lives, finding inner strength and believing in yourself to go after your dreams. I'd like to encourage you to visit the web site they have for the album and listen to some of the song samples there. I believe you'll enjoy them as much as I have.

On a final note, Richard ended his email to me with the following comment:

"If you check out our site, you'll see that we're both really in the same business of helping people and changing lives."

How right he is :-) ... Here's to your success, Josh Hinds
